trans4num Danish NBS Site: Perennial Grass Crops for Biorefinery and Circular Nutrient Management

Supporting sustainable nutrient management through perennial grass crops and biorefinery in Danish agriculture

or

Detail description

trans4num is a four-year EU-China collaboration funded under the Horizon Europe Zero Pollution call, advancing nature-based solutions (NBS) for sustainable nutrient management in agriculture. This factsheet details the Danish NBS site, focusing on shifting crop rotations to perennial grasses to enhance nitrogen efficiency, support circular nutrient retention, and enable biorefinery use of biomass. The approach strengthens climate resilience, integrates with local protein supply chains, and promotes agroecological transition through stakeholder engagement. Led by Tommy Dalgaard, Morten Graversgaard, and Nele Lohrum, the project supports systemic change in European agriculture via science, traditional knowledge, and local food systems.
