MOVING Project: Adaptive Capacity of Organic Mountain Olive Groves
Strengthening resilience in organic mountain olive groves through coordinated local and territorial strategies
or
Detail description
Organic mountain olive groves in Spain's Betic Systems face challenges including drought, soil degradation, market inequities, and declining public support. Despite positive outcomes from organic practices, the sector remains underdeveloped and unsustainable. Key adaptation strategies include ground cover maintenance, pruning biomass reuse, conservation of local olive varieties, and regenerative agriculture. Strengthening local coordination and overcoming resistance from conservative actors are critical for resilience. Political and media pressure favors industrial models, hindering progress. A holistic, coordinated approach is needed for sustainable value chain development.
