MOVING Project – Sustainable Tourism and Governance in the Southern Romanian Carpathians

Sustainable tourism and governance in the Făgăraș mountain region of Romania's Southern Carpathians

or

Detail description

Sustainable tourism and certified products in the Piatra Craiului National Park and Țara Făgărașului micro-region, Southern Carpathians, Romania, are central to the EU H2020 MOVING project. The initiative supports local small-scale producers through grazing rights, training, and streamlined certification. It promotes stronger governance, stricter planning regulations for tourism developments, and decentralised funding via local stakeholder-led mechanisms. A key achievement is the region’s successful bid for Integrated Territorial Investment (ITI) funding under the 2021–2027 EU Cohesion Policy—among only four such awards in Romania. The project enhances resilience and sustainability in mountain areas by integrating ecological conservation with rural development.
