Capturing and utilising CO2 from biogas plants
Biomethane production from biogas enables efficient carbon dioxide capture and liquefaction for industrial use
or
Detail description
Carbon dioxide from biogas upgrading is a promising source for carbon capture and utilisation. This project demonstrated pilot-scale liquefaction of high-purity CO2 at a municipal biogas plant in Finland using a containerised PuLI unit. The process captures CO2-rich streams (over 95% purity) from biogas upgrading, compresses, purifies via pressure swing adsorption, and liquefies it for sale. Results show successful bottling with minimal investment, though trace methane remains. The technology is scalable and economically viable for larger plants, with potential for broader application in rural bioeconomy and CCU.
