Tagetes cultivation for nematode control in Dutch agriculture

Biological soil disinfection using tagetes to combat Pratylenchus penetrans in Dutch sandy soils

or

Detail description

The AgriLink project explored tagetes cultivation as a sustainable biological method for controlling Pratylenchus penetrans nematodes in sandy soils across Dutch agricultural regions, including NL132, NL321, NL411, and NL421. This innovation, driven by stricter regulations on chemical soil disinfectants, has been successfully adopted by the tree nursery and strawberry sectors, which face high nematode pressure. Research and advisory organizations have collaborated since the 1990s to refine application techniques and share knowledge, supporting the transition to eco-friendly farming practices.
