Gas Loop Innovation: Pig Farm Air Treatment Costs and Design
Air treatment systems in pig farming: cost estimates and implementation recommendations under the EU-funded 'Gas Loop' initiative
or
Detail description
The document evaluates cost implications and recommends preparatory works for air treatment systems in pig farming under the Emilia-Romagna Rural Development Programme (2014–2020) and the EU-funded 'Gas Loop' initiative. Additional works for a pigpen are estimated at €7,000 per section, totalling €28,000, representing 2.2% of the base construction cost. The full air treatment system is projected at €208,000, with €28,000 (13.5%) allocated to preparatory works—equating to 16.2% of the base cost. It is recommended to include preparatory works in new constructions due to their low cost and long-term benefits, while retrofitting existing pigpens is considered more complex due to structural and design constraints. A webinar on ammonia emissions from pig farming is scheduled as part of the initiative, organised by CRPA and other partners under the EU-funded programme.
