Detaljerad beskrivning

This paper examines the establishment and growth of the French organic pig production sector, branded as 'PorcBio'. It conducts a comparative analysis with Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands, focusing on cost structures, market organization, and export dynamics. In France, four major networks produced 75% of 82,000 organic pigs in 2011, with retail chains and specialty shops being main distribution channels. The study highlights technical and economic barriers, notably feed-related constraints, including low availability of organic protein sources, and variability in farm performance (14.4–21.4 piglets weaned per sow per year). It underscores the need for technical support and feed autonomy strategies for sector development.
