Reduce and maintain a good calving-to-calving interval in beef production
Optimising the calving interval improves herd productivity, increases farm profitability and reduces the carbon footprint of beef production systems.
Podrobný popis
This practice abstract presents strategies to reduce and maintain an optimal calving-to-calving interval in beef cattle systems.
Achieving an average interval close to 365 days helps maximise herd productivity, improve farm profitability and reduce greenhouse gas emissions per kilogram of liveweight produced. Measures include defined breeding seasons, monitoring oestrus and returns, timely reproductive management, and proper preparation of breeding bulls.
Nutritional management before and after calving is also essential to support reproductive performance, minimise embryo losses and ensure cows maintain good body condition. Together, these practices improve production efficiency and contribute to lower carbon footprints in beef farming.
