Podrobný popis

This practice abstract presents strategies for optimising grassland management in dairy farming systems. Grasslands provide important ecosystem services, including biodiversity conservation, water filtration, and carbon sequestration.

Key measures include the use of site-adapted grass-legume mixtures, synchronisation of grazing with vegetation stages, targeted use of supplementary feed, and the adoption of dual-purpose cattle breeds with high pasture suitability.

Experience from Swiss farms shows that tailored combinations of these practices can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve environmental efficiency, maintain productive dairy systems, and, under suitable conditions, reduce workload while increasing farm revenues.
