Brain aging and its link to cognitive deficits and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s are major drivers of future health expenditures. Beyond genetic risks, environmental factors such as diet offer potential for prevention. This review focuses on lipid nutrition, detailing the roles of ω3 fatty acids and vitamin A in preserving cognitive function in older individuals. It analyzes preclinical findings from animal models alongside clinical data in humans, exploring the mechanisms through which these nutrients act in the brain. The work highlights their neuroprotective activities and proposes nutritional strategies to delay or reduce cognitive decline in aging populations.
