Descrição detalhada

This practice abstract presents the use of biochar as a carbon sequestration and soil improvement strategy in agricultural systems.

Biochar is a carbon-rich material produced from biomass through pyrolysis under low-oxygen conditions. When applied to agricultural soils, it can store carbon for long periods, helping to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and contributing to greenhouse gas reduction targets.

Additional benefits include increased soil organic carbon, improved soil structure, better water and nutrient retention, higher soil pH in acidic soils and enhanced crop productivity. The practice can also support circular use of agricultural and forestry residues and create opportunities for carbon credit generation.
