AQUACOMBINE is a four-year EU-funded project developing a circular biomass industry using halophyte plants like Salicornia and Crithmum. It integrates aquaculture, farming, and bioprocessing to co-produce food, feed, bio compounds, and bioenergy with minimal waste. The project involves 17 partners from 7 countries, including Aalborg University (Denmark), Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences (Germany), and stakeholders from Portugal, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, and the UK. Led by Prof. Mette Hedegaard Thomson, the project has held a successful kick-off meeting with 85 attendees. Research shows halophyte-based products can improve skin health and animal immunity. The next stakeholder meeting is on 30 May in Évora, Portugal, with live streaming. The AQUACOMBINE Post newsletter shares progress, innovations, and a recipe for pickling Salicornia.
