    FICHA del GO WELBEEF sobre creación de pautas de manejo durante el pre sacrificio de terneros para mejorar el bienestar y reducir la incidencia de DFD y petequias

    En la reunión sectorial de abril del 2018 (IV Reunión del grupo de Trabajo de terneros), integrado por diferentes representantes del sector vacuno de engorde, se escogió el proyecto factores pre-sacrificio y reducción de petequias y DFD de la carne como proyecto prioritario. La calidad de la carne puede ser negativamente afectada por el pre-sacrificio. El pre-sacrificio involucra todos los cambios de condiciones y actividad antes del sacrificio como cambios de temperatura ambiental, la carga y descarga de los terneros en granja y matadero, el transporte, la mezcla de animales, tiempo de espera en el matadero, tipo de sacrificio, etc. Hay muchos estudios que demuestran que el estrés que sufren los animales durante estos cambios de condiciones y actividades varia en función de la duración y la intensidad, incrementando la proporción de efectos negativos en la carne. El estrés y la actividad física generan un agotamiento del glicógeno en el músculo resultando en un incremento de pH que causa cambios en la apariencia física de la carne, llamándolas carnes DFD. Por lo tanto, el proyecto WELBEEF pretende mejorar y evaluar las practicas pre-sacrificio relacionadas con el bienestar animal (WELfare) que tienen consecuencia directa sobre la calidad de la carne en canal (BEEF).

    A Bio-inspired Multilayer Drainage System

    Agricultural run-off and subsurface drainage tiles transport a significant amount of nitrogen and phosphorus leached after fertilization. alchemia-nova GmbH in collaboration with University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna developed two multi-layer vertical filter systems to address the agricultural run-off issue, which has been installed on the slope of an agricultural field in Mistelbach, Austria. While another multi-layer addressing subsurface drainage water is implemented in Gleisdorf, Austria. The goal is to develop a drainage filter system to retain water and nutrients. Both multi-layer filter systems contain biochar and other substrates with adsorption properties of nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus). The filter system can be of practical use if an excess of nutrients being washed out is of concern in the fields of the practitioner by keeping the surrounding waters clean. This approach may result in economic value by re-using the saturated biochar as fertilizer and improving the soil structure, thus increasing long-term soil fertility. FACTSHEET NANOCELLULOSE MEMBRANES FOR NUTRIENT RECOVERY Key information Functionalized nanocellulose membranes can take up nitrate and phosphate. These membranes can be put in a water treatment unit. As the membranes are biobased, degradable materials, they can after use be added to the soil, thus returning the leached nutrients back for their original purpose providing fertilizers (nutrient recycling).
