Biomass Atlas: Open Access Tool for Renewable Resource Planning in Finland

Supports biomass planning and policy with 300+ map layers across forestry, agriculture, and waste sectors

Detail description

Biomass Atlas is an open online tool funded by the EU Horizon 2020 programme and the Finnish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. It provides access to around 300 map layers of biomass from forestry, agriculture, and biodegradable waste across Finland. The platform supports spatial analysis, biomass volume calculation, and assessment of utilisation potential and constraints. Data sources include the Agency for Rural Affairs (Mavi), the National Forest Inventory, and environmental permit reports. Users can define custom areas or use administrative boundaries, query nutrient production, or search within 100 km of a location. The tool aids in planning green investments, raw material procurement, and advancing renewable energy and environmental policies. It enhances regional decision-making and supports sustainable resource use.
