Strengthening Farm Health and Safety in Ireland

Strengthening farm health and safety through education, training, and cross-sector coordination in Ireland

or

Detail description

Farm health and safety policy and governance frameworks in Ireland, as developed through the EU-funded SafeHabitus project, focus on strengthening education, training, and cross-sector coordination. Key recommendations include establishing a National FHS Education and Training Group to standardize curricula and digital tools, delivering farmer-centred programmes across diverse farming systems, integrating FHS into agricultural education, and launching targeted campaigns for high-risk groups. To improve coordination, the project proposes a National FHS Coordination Group to align policies, a centralized data system for tracking injuries and interventions, regional support hubs, and enhanced collaboration between health services, insurers, and research institutions. These measures aim to close knowledge gaps, improve risk awareness, and support social sustainability in Irish agriculture.
