Optimizing pasture use in organic dairy farming with targeted supplementary feeding

Regionally adapted systems for pasture-based organic dairy farming in Germany, focusing on grazing and supplementary feeding strategies across seven farms in Baden-Württemberg from 2019 to 2020. The project, led by the University of Hohenheim and organic farming associations Bioland and Demeter, demonstrated that optimal feeding practices depend on farm-specific conditions, with supplementary feeding improving pasture forage utilisation. The goal was to minimise feed inputs while maintaining milk production, highlighting the need for tailored management in organic dairy systems.
