Strip Cropping in Mid-Adriatic Organic Farming Systems
Strip cropping boosts yields and soil health in diverse European farming systems, especially for heritage crops and sloping terrain
or
Detail description
Strip cropping in the mid-Adriatic region enhances sustainability and yield for minor species and local cultivars. In sloping terrain (CS22), legumes showed higher partial LER, while cereals underperformed; cover crops reduced erosion and leaching. On flat land (FE9), synergistic effects boosted total biomass, with zucchini-wheat strips outperforming pure stands due to wind protection and microclimate benefits. Optimal species pairing, strip width, and machinery compatibility are key for reducing unproductive areas and operational time. Findings from DiverIMPACTS and Organic Farm Knowledge support practical implementation.
