Controlling docks through stubble cultivation in arable farming

Mechanical dock control using skim plough and cultivator in organic arable farming

or

Detail description

Mechanical control of docks in arable farming using skim plough and flat cultivator at 12–25 cm depth to sever roots below growth points. Roots must be brought to surface with spring-tine harrow every 7–14 days, using rotary harrow in heavy soils. Manual removal of roots after each pass is essential. Effective after early-maturing crops or early tillage; avoid prolonged fallow. Follow-up catch crop recommended. Long-term strategies include deep-rooted or cover crops to reduce soil moisture and nutrients. Developed by FiBL, Switzerland, 2017. Part of OK-Net Arable. Available in English and German. Applicable to organic farming in regions with Swiss-like conditions.
