Mechanical weed control in organic fruit growing using thread mowers

Weed control in organic orchards using rotating thread mowers for sustainable soil management

or

Detail description

Mechanical weed control using rotating polyurethane filaments effectively manages above-ground weeds in organic fruit orchards, especially in tree strips where herbicides are banned. The thread mower cuts vegetation without soil disturbance, reducing erosion and nitrogen leaching. Suitable for older orchards (>7 years) and ideal for summer use, it performs well in various weather conditions. Available in multiple thread thicknesses and shapes, selection should be guided by an agricultural advisor. Avoid use in very dry or abrasive soils to prevent excessive wear. Part of the BIOFRUITNET project, this tool supports sustainable farming and is accessible via the Organic Farm Knowledge platform.
