Rootstocks for pear cultivation: selection and compatibility

Pear rootstock selection for organic farming: compatibility, vigour, and disease resistance

or

Detail description

Rootstocks significantly impact pear tree vigour, yield, and disease resistance. Quince rootstocks are most common, with selection based on soil type, variety, and planting system. Key rootstocks include Eline® (reduced bronze colouration), Adams (high productivity under low water), and Doyenné du Comice (intermediate stem for compatibility). Incompatible pairings exist between Williams, Bosc, Triumph de Vienne, and certain rootstocks; Doyenné du Comice mitigates these. Eline® shows lower frost sensitivity. New disease-resistant rootstocks require testing in organic systems. Source: BIOFRUITNET project, 2023.
