Codling moth control in organic pear production
Early to late-season susceptibility of pears to codling moth in organic systems
or
Detail description
Codling moth (Cydia pomonella) is a key pest in organic pears, with susceptibility increasing from July to August as fruit petrification declines and hardiness drops. Young Conference pears show early resistance, but vulnerability rises by early August, especially in varieties like Abate Fetel and Bartlett. Elstar apples remain more resistant. Timing interventions to codling moth flight and fruit development stages is critical. Decision support systems are recommended to reduce damage and suppress population build-up. Part of the BIOFRUITNET project, 2023, published by Delphy (Netherlands), available in English (USA), Danish, and Dutch. Hosted on Organic Farm Knowledge and Organic Eprints.
