BIOECONOMY IN CEREAL AND BEET SECTOR

Pomacle-Bazancourt biorefinery: a regional model for EU bioeconomy innovation

or

Detail description

Cereals and sugar beet are key crops in the EU bioeconomy, contributing 21% of crop output and half of global sugar beet production. The Pomacle-Bazancourt biorefinery in Grand Est processes 4 million tons of biomass annually, converting wheat into cosmetics, adhesives, and animal feed, while using beet by-products for bioethanol and capturing CO₂ for soft drinks. Backed by farmer cooperatives and regional initiatives, the site exemplifies a circular bioeconomy model with 1,200 employees and EU Horizon 2020 funding.
