Farms, Safety, and Health in Romania 2018–2022

Workplace accidents and safety challenges in Romania's agricultural sector (2018–2022), including underreported self-employed farmers and family workers

or

Detail description

Workplace accidents in Romania’s agriculture, forestry, and fishing sectors (2018–2022) show fluctuating trends, with 194 non-fatal and 36 fatal incidents recorded in 2019—the highest annual total. Fatalities declined to 19 by 2022. However, data excludes self-employed farmers and their families, who constitute the majority of the agricultural workforce and often lack health insurance, limiting access to care and distorting official reporting. This results in underestimation of true injury and fatality rates. Data sourced from Romania’s National Institute of Statistics (2024). Analysis published by SafeHabitus, funded by the European Union, with disclaimer that views do not necessarily reflect EU positions. References include EUROSTAT reports, academic studies on rural transformation, and demographic farm data.
