Vaccination to Control Salmonella Risk in Broiler Chickens
Vaccination of broiler chicks as a preventive measure against Salmonella on poultry farms
or
Detail description
Vaccination is a critical measure for reducing Salmonella risk on broiler chicken farms. While biosecurity and breeder flock vaccination provide initial protection, maternal immunity lasts only 2–3 weeks. In high-risk scenarios—such as prior infection, proximity to pig farms, or organically fertilized land—early chick vaccination with a live vaccine is recommended as an additional strategy. Though not mandatory under official control programs, it is a viable option. BroilerNet.eu supports this approach within the EIP-Agri programme, funded by the European Commission.
