Detail description
The Friesian Food Movement, launched in 2017 in Sudwest Friesland, drives a regional transition toward sustainable, localized food systems. By 2019, it established a Food Vision, leading to the 2021–2030 Landbouw-agenda targeting 80% local food production by 2030, with 25% through short supply chains. The agenda emphasizes circular agriculture, policy support, and education in agro-ecology. The 2025–2030 Beliedsbrieft Lanbou focuses on spatial planning and consumer-producer links via education and small-scale gardening. Key initiatives include FRIIDAS and Voedselwerkt, while research highlights soil health, food quality, and organic farming costs (€250–300/ha annually). The 2035 vision aims for a 100% circular, vital food system, supported by a proposed Fries Food Council. The Voedselmixmethode aligns supply and demand, with two demonstration sites—Uit Hof and Brandsma’s Pleats—offering training. A local food map exists, but an integrated ICT platform for logistics and ordering is needed. Participatory Guarantee Systems could reduce certification costs. In the Greidhoek, the 80% local food target is achievable with a plant-based diet, and a 'Marktmeester' will balance supply and demand, focusing on local bread, dairy, and vegetables.
