Agroforestry and innovation for rural development in Europe

The AF4EU project aims to promote agroforestry in Europe by focusing on the development of value chains and the marketing of its products. It relies on regional innovation networks (RAINs), coordinated by an innovation broker who connects research and farmers.

The project presents practical examples from Finland, such as forest grazing, alley cropping and the integration of trees on dairy farms, which deliver economic, environmental and animal welfare benefits. It also highlights the importance of bio-districts and community work in strengthening rural networks, exchanging knowledge and revitalising local areas.
