Animal welfare through calm handling practices

Promoting calm, routine-based animal handling on a 800-hectare organic farm in Södermanland

or

Detail description

Stenhammar Estate Management, managed by HM King Carl XVI Gustaf, spans 800 hectares in Södermanland with certified organic farming across livestock, crop production, and forestry. The farm maintains 280 cows of Angus, Simmental, and crossbreeds, using consistent routines and calm handling to reduce stress. Regular movement between pastures and stall rotations promote animal welfare and adaptability. Designated pathways and herding practices ensure clear navigation. Natural pastures cover 250 hectares. The farm’s approach is informed by animal behavior and staff observation. Supported by the European Union.
