Biodiversity in semi-natural grasslands – a driving force

A model for biodiversity and sustainable grassland management on a 350-hectare farm in Västergötland

or

Detail description

Biodiversity in pasture management drives milk production at Torpet farm in Västergötland, Sweden. Run by Sofia and Gustav Kämpe, the 350-hectare farm manages 70 hectares of semi-natural grassland using ecosystem services and EU subsidies. With 220 dairy cows and plans to expand to 285, the farm uses robotic milking systems. Biodiversity is central to their operations, supported by sustainable practices, community engagement, and winter and summer grazing management. The farm generates income through biodiversity payments and sheep grazing, reflecting a commitment to ecological and economic sustainability.
