Livestock monitoring in Romanian mountains using GPS trackers

GPS tracking enhances livestock monitoring in Romanian mountain pastures

or

Detail description

Monitoring GPS-tracked dairy cattle on a family-run 8-hectare farm in Cluj County, Romania. The mountainous terrain and remote pastures pose challenges for livestock management, prompting the adoption of GPS tracking devices funded through the EU's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) measure 6.3. These devices, costing around 100 EUR each and operating via SIM cards, enable real-time monitoring of Bălțată Românească breed cows, improving herd management and operational efficiency. The technology supports extensive grazing systems and could enhance animal health monitoring, particularly for calving or sick animals. The solution is scalable for similar mountainous agricultural regions.
