Improve productivity and animal welfare through agro-silvo-pastoral practices

Innovative agro-silvo-pastoral system for sustainable livestock farming in Portugal

or

Detail description

Herdade de São Luís is a 700-hectare family farm in Montemor-o-Novo, Portugal, practicing an agro-silvopastoral system integrating cattle, pigs, sheep, and goats. Over seven years, innovative grazing management has improved productivity, reduced costs, and enhanced animal welfare through optimized calving parks and soil protection. In the last five years, the farm has shifted to direct meat sales, reducing herd size and species diversity. The project is EU-funded and led by Francisco Alves, featured in a YouTube interview.
