Practicing site-adapted goat farming to improve animal welfare

Sustainable goat farming at 1,450 meters with focus on animal health and pasture management

or

Detail description

Trumsberg is a family-run goat farm in Kastelbell, South Tyrol, at 1,450 meters above sea level. With 50 dairy goats, the farm produces cheese on-site and markets it directly. The Stecher family prioritizes animal welfare through sustainable grazing practices, including springtime short sward grazing and summer alpine pasturing on shared alpine meadows. This system reduces workload, supports herd health, and minimizes deworming through targeted treatments based on fecal testing. The farm exemplifies low-impact, high-welfare livestock management in mountainous terrain.
