Creating Tracks and Cow Tunnel to Expand Grazing
Enhancing pasture access and reducing labour on a 100-cow Normandy dairy farm in Brittany
or
Detail description
Romain Guégan and Emilie Doussal manage a 100-cow Normandy dairy farm in Brittany, covering 85 hectares with 59 hectares of pasture. They produce 550,000 litres of milk annually, achieving 5,500 litres per cow. To improve pasture access and reduce labour, they built a 10-metre boviduc and 1.5 km of grazing paths, cutting feed costs by 50% and saving 30 minutes daily in herding. The boviduc cost €18,000 and paths €10,000, with most construction done by the farmers. Future plans include mud traps at the boviduc ends and path maintenance every three years. The project was supported by the European Union and the Chamber of Agriculture, Brittany.
