Bioherbicides based on pelargonic acid, derived from rapeseed oil, provide a non-chemical, contact-action solution for controlling young annual weeds in vineyards. They cause rapid desiccation within hours, with visible drying in 48 hours, and are effective on dicotyledons and young grasses. These products avoid soil disturbance, protect vine roots, and have no negative impact on soil microbes or earthworms. They are compatible with mechanical weeding, require no soil compaction, and can be applied at speeds of 4–5 km/h. However, efficacy depends on weather, weed stage, and application precision. Regrowth is common in wet conditions. Best results are achieved with early-season tillage followed by targeted bioherbicide use under warm, sunny conditions. Recommended for reducing reliance on synthetic herbicides amid resistance and regulatory concerns.
