The Monte Amiata PGI chestnut: a product of excellence to be promoted

Producers in the Amiata area have founded the Association for the Promotion of Monte Amiata PGI Chestnuts and launched the FORECAST project to protect this Italian speciality. The project uses innovative technologies to reduce rot in chestnuts and improve the sorting system, removing defective nuts before they are placed on the market. Coordinated by the Association for the Promotion of the Monte Amiata IGP Chestnut, the project involves eight partners, including cooperatives, farms, universities and research bodies. Funded by the 2014–2022 EAFRD Rural Development Programme as part of the European Innovation Partnership, the project can be accessed at goforecast.it and innovaurale.it.
