Application of Panel and Consumer Testing in Berry Breeding – BreedingValue Project

Sensory evaluation using expert panels and consumer testing supports breeding of blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries in the H2020 BreedingValue project. A multilingual sensory lexicon in seven languages enables harmonised assessment of aroma, taste, flavour, and texture. IBE-CNR developed a sensory toolkit with training protocols for breeders, enabling data-driven selection of new cultivars. Rapid consumer testing identifies key preference drivers.
