Improving Pig Feed Efficiency via Data-Driven Breeding

Improving pig feed efficiency through genetic selection and automated data systems

or

Detail description

This project improves feed use efficiency in pig farming through intensive genetic selection in purebred populations. It implements a system for individual feed intake monitoring via automatic feeding stations within unified self-performance testing. Data collection, processing, and breeding value estimation for feed consumption traits use the BLUP animal model. Breeding values are disseminated through Studbook Online to support informed selection. The system enhances feed conversion efficiency, reduces resource use, and supports sustainable pig production. Recommended for all national breeding programme breeds. Funded by the European Union and accessible via EU-FarmBook.
