Natural Mineral Fertilizers for Organic Orchards
Intensive organic orchard systems with reduced meteo-dependence and ecological sustainability
or
Detail description
Natural mineral fertilizers enhance tree health and productivity in organic orchards by providing essential nutrients. Wood ash, straw ash, leaf ash, and other organic residues supply potassium. Rock flour—calcareous-magnesian, phosphorus-siliceous, and granitic-basaltic types—ensures slow, sustained nutrient release and improves phosphorus uptake through silicon. Key phosphorus sources include calcined natural phosphates, phosphorite flour, bone meal, and Thomas slag, which also deliver calcium and silicon. Seaweed-based foliar fertilizers like Micro-Mist from Ascophyllum nodosum provide plant hormones, trace elements, vitamins, and amino acids. The Cherry Tree Innovative Pilot Project promotes these practices in ecologically sustainable, low-meteo-dependence orchard systems, supported by the European Union and accessible via EU-FarmBook.
