Conclusions on Phyto-Surgical Species in Aquaponics

Smart aquaponics systems for small and medium farms: cultivating aromatic herbs sustainably

or

Detail description

This project evaluated the cultivation of phyto-surgical species in aquaponics systems, demonstrating feasibility and profitability. Allium schoenoprasum thrived across all systems, excelling in the floating system with optimal growth metrics. Silene showed positive results in media bed and vertical systems but struggled in floating systems, reflecting species-specific soil and moisture preferences. The findings highlight mutual benefits between plants and aquaponics, supporting sustainable farming. Dissemination efforts promoted the nutritional and culinary value of wild and aromatic herbs. Outreach activities, including workshops and training, supported adoption in small and medium farms. Funded by the European Union. Made available via EU-FarmBook.
