Combustion Tests of Residual Biomass for Energy and Environmental Assessment

Residual biomass from agricultural and woodland sources for energy and agronomic applications

or

Detail description

This project evaluates the feasibility of using residual biomass from hill and low mountain farms for energy, agronomic, and breeding purposes. Combustion tests were conducted on agricultural residues—such as cereal straws, corn stalks, vine and fruit tree pruning, and olive branches—and woodland biomass including firewood and work timber. Assessments covered economic, environmental (emissions avoided and produced), and energy performance (yield and consumption). A survey mapped biomass availability in the Forlì hill area, distinguishing agricultural and woodland sources. Territorial information systems were proposed to assess regional energy potential. Biochar from various biomass types was chemically and physically characterized for compliance with Italian legislation. Funded by the European Union and made available via EU-FarmBook.
