Enhancing Basilicata Wine Production with Indigenous Yeast Strains
Strengthening Basilicata's wine industry through indigenous yeast selection and local starter culture development
or
Detail description
This project develops a bank of indigenous, oenologically suitable yeast strains from Basilicata, Italy, to support local wine production. Selected strains—originating from regional samples and research initiatives like PIF-LI-ELUC—are tailored to the local ecotype and provided to wine producers as native starter cultures. The initiative strengthens the link between terroir, production, and wine quality, offering a sustainable alternative to commercial yeasts. By enhancing regional wine identity, the project enables the creation of distinctive, high-quality wines with potential for expanded domestic and international market access. Funded by the European Union, the project promotes the strategic revival of the local wine sector.
