Tomato Cultivation with LED Lighting and Diffusion Glass

Enhancing tomato yield and quality through energy-efficient LED lighting and diffusion glass in greenhouses

or

Detail description

This study explores the integration of LED lighting and diffusion glass in greenhouse tomato cultivation to reduce heat emission, maintain optimal growing conditions, and enhance yield and fruit quality. Compared to traditional sodium lamps, LED lighting provides equivalent light intensity with lower thermal output, improving climate control. Diffusion glass enhances natural light distribution, particularly in low-light seasons like autumn and winter. The combined system increases yield, reduces electricity consumption, and improves fruit characteristics such as size, colour, taste, and nutritional composition. The method is sustainable, minimises resource use, eliminates chemical plant protection, and supports high-quality, safe production. Funded by the European Union and accessible via EU-FarmBook.
