Optimised forest management through modelling in Portugal’s communal areas

Sustainable forest management through optimisation: a 30-year plan for 5,000 ha of maritime pine in the communal areas of Boticas (Portugal). Two optimisation models (individual and collective) were compared with an empirical forest management model (FMP-B), whilst complying with Portuguese regulatory constraints on clear-cutting and maximum harvesting areas. The aim is to maximise timber volume whilst ensuring a balanced distribution over time and long-term sustainability.
