Forest Sharing: platform for sustainable forest management in Italy

Forest Sharing is a platform by Bluebiloba, a University of Florence spin-off, supporting small forest owners in Italy to combat land abandonment and fragmentation. Launched in 2020, it enables sustainable, collaborative management of small forest holdings through silvicultural practices aligned with sustainable forest management (SFM) principles. The platform connects public administrations, forestry experts, industries, and owners, promoting multifunctional forest management across 23,000 hectares in all Italian regions. A pilot project in Friuli-Venezia Giulia with Boschi Carnic demonstrates its effectiveness. Forest owners can register for free and choose self-management or delegate to platform technicians, gaining access to precision forestry tools, supply chain links, and tenders. The platform enhances ecosystem services, climate resilience, and landscape quality, particularly in regions with high forest fragmentation. It supports agroforestry and SFM standards, improving conservation, recreation, and production outcomes.
