Women Innovators in Finland - Rural Fact Sheet #014

Selling surplus and second-grade produce to fight food waste in Närpes

or

Detail description

LivsVinn, founded by Linnea Strand in 2019 in Närpes, Sweden, reduces food waste by selling second-grade and surplus produce, including items past their 'best before' date, at discounted prices. The store promotes sustainability and the circular economy, operates a café and ice cream bar in summer, partners with local restaurants for surplus meals, and donates a portion of profits to local causes. It has expanded to a second location in Malåx and won the 2022 Eglil Gullström Foundation Prize for Innovative Young Entrepreneurship.
