Women Innovators in Ireland - Farming Fact Sheet #040

Farming sisters Miriam and Rachel Hastings, educators from a family sheep and suckler farm in Ballyforan, Galway/Roscommon, launched their Instagram account in March 2020 to highlight agriculture’s vital role in society. Despite full-time teaching jobs, they share daily farm life, sustainable practices, innovations, and challenges. Their platform, with 17,600 followers as of March 2024, bridges consumers and producers, promotes women in farming, and fosters cross-sector engagement. They speak at events and use social media to inspire awareness and acceptance of modern agriculture.
