Grazing, forage quality, and milk quality improvement

Multi-species pastures, rotational grazing, and improved forage management for dairy goats and cows

or

Detail description

The farm, spanning 98 hectares with 93 hectares dedicated to forage crops, implemented multi-species pastures, rotational grazing, and soil management to improve milk quality and forage autonomy. Key actions included establishing two multi-species pastures (with RGH, RGA, fétuque, dactyle, trèfle hybride, and TB, fétuque des prés, fétuque rouge), conducting soil analysis, and using coprocédopies for parasite control. Grazing area for goats increased from 31.75ha (2018) to 37.65ha (2019), then decreased to 30.5ha by 2021. Pasture value rose, with fauche type reaching 118 g MAT/kg MS and pâturé type 109 g MAT/kg MS in 2021. Milk quality improved, with TB increasing from 39.04 g/L to 41.33 g/L and TP from 32.6 g/L to 34.21 g/L. Concentrate use declined due to better forage quality, and forage autonomy rose from 92% to 95%. Permanent grassland management (PME) enhanced grass development and clover presence. The project, co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Occitanie region, supported sustainable farming practices and improved productivity and stability in milk output.
