Commercial apple growing in northern Europe

Commercial apple cultivation in northern Sweden's rural regions, focusing on climate-resilient techniques, high-sugar apple varieties, and innovative planting and management methods to support premium ice cider production. The project, active until September 2024, involved 12,000 trees across four Swedish counties, linking farmers to a global value chain through a high-value cider producer. It emphasizes sustainability, quality over yield, and farmer-led experimentation to strengthen regional food security, environmental resilience, and economic development in harsh northern climates.
