Geolocation and monitoring for sustainable livestock management

Supporting extensive livestock farming with geolocation and monitoring technologies for improved sustainability and productivity

or

Detail description

The FOREST4EU project enhances extensive livestock farming in Catalonia through geolocation and monitoring technologies for cattle, horses, and sheep. It supports economic viability by reducing labour through real-time tracking of animal movement, health, and location. The initiative improves pasture management and biodiversity conservation by analysing grazing patterns and maintaining silvopastoral systems. It also detects wildlife interactions early using data from monitoring collars, reducing predation risks. Led by the Unió de Pagesos, IRTA, Digitanimal, and local cooperatives, the project enables sustainable, data-driven farm management with minimal manual input.
