Wood-Resin Compatibility and Mechanical Performance in *Pinus pinaster*
Resin tapping does not compromise structural wood quality in maritime pine
or
Detail description
ACREMA studied the impact of resin tapping on Pinus pinaster wood strength using mechanical testing on 238 structural-sized logs. Visual grading and UNE-EN 338 compliance confirmed similar rejection rates between resin-tapped and control groups. Static bending tests showed no significant difference in modulus of elasticity, bending strength, or density, with only a 6% higher average strength in the control group. Results confirm resin tapping does not compromise structural wood quality, supporting its integration as a sustainable ecosystem service in Galician mountain forests.
