Innovation in livestock effluent management

The new fertilisation model under development by the Department of Agriculture introduces updated obligations for livestock effluent management, including mandatory procedures in ZADER zones, GPS tracking for long-distance transport, and requirements for equipment and data recording. It aims to modernise reporting through pre-annual and annual declarations, replace management books, and promote innovations like controlled liquid fraction application and nitrogen reduction via feeding. An operational group led by the Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of Catalonia is piloting these measures in Tarragona and Lleida from 2016 to 2018, supported by research institutions.
